Philipp Tutzer

Philipp Tutzer was born in Bolzano where he received bassoon tuition from Claudio Alberti at the Claudio Monteverdi Conservatory. Having gained his Diploma there, he went on to study at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts with Stepan Turnovsky and from 2005 on he studied with Dag Jensen at the Hanover University of Music and Drama.

During this period he also attended master classes directed by Klaus Thunemann and Sergio Azzolini. As a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester (GMJO) he worked and learned with Claudio Abbado, Pierre Boulez, Franz Welser- Möst, Bernard Haitink, Ingo Metzmacher, Adam Fischer and Wladimir Aschkenasi.

Philipp Tutzer was prizewinner at the International Mozart Competition in Rovereto, the International AEOLUS Competition in Düsseldorf, the Kurt Alten Competition and in 2008 at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich.

Consequential he performed as a soloist with the Deutsche Symphonieorchester Berlin, the Kölner Kammerorchester, the Symphonic Orchestras of Düsseldorf and Nürnberg, the Münchner Kammerorchester, the Orchestra UniMi of Milan, the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Zagreb, the „Neue Philharmonie Westfalen“, the Tonkünstlerorchester Niederösterreich and the Orquesta Sinfonica de Colombia, being guest at the Berliner Philharmonie, the Wiener Musikverein, the Meraner Musikwochen and at the Salzburger Festspielen. He recorded music of Bach and Berio for the Deutschlandradio and performed at the Lockenhaus- Festival of Gidon Kremer.

Tutzer has been principal bassoonist in the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra since 2007 and worked with the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Camerata Salzburg, the NDR Hamburg and the Philharmonic Orchestras of Berlin and Munich. He has been invited to be principal bassoonist of Munich Philharmonic for the season 2016/17.

Since 2011 he is teaching at the Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität Linz and holds masterclasses in Beijing, Bad Goisern, Tokyo, Ghent, Palermo, Rotterdam, Moskau, Bogota, Innsbruck and at the summer academy of the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
